Taking Care Of Your Teeth Can Save Your Life.

Friday, September 30th, 2011

How important it is to take care of your teeth is something you have been told most of your life, practically from the time you were first able to hold a toothbrush. You have probably had a stern talking to at least once by your dentist. Even though the nagging can be irritating, it is also true. Taking good care of your teeth is of major consequence. It is known that if your teeth aren’t healthy it will be harder for the rest of you to stay healthy. It is not blowing things out of proportion to say that proper teeth care can save your life. Here are some ways to improve your oral health.

Avoid foods that will stain your teeth.

Certain types of darker liquids such as coffee, tea and soda are some of those kinds of foods. Another cause for discoloration are very sugary foods. Some people have found that fruit based juices have caused staining on their teeth. The reason for the discoloration is because the color was artificially added to the beverage like it is with soda. You will notice that the stains from coffee and tea are easier to remove than those stains caused by artificial coloring. It is better to try to stick with clear liquids such as water. Keep in mind that water is healthier for you than anything else you might drink.

Be sure to floss your teeth at least once a day, preferably at night. Most people don’t enjoy flossing. It is awkward and hard to do, and if not done often, it can be painful. But in reality, the floss can reach places that the toothbrush can’t get to. Debris can find its way up into your gums between your teeth and flossing is a way to remove it. The debris, if left unattended can harden into plaque which then can result in any number of problems. Fortunately flossing doesn’t have to be as difficult as it used to be. There are very inexpensive pre-threaded floss “sticks” that you can purchase that make flossing easier. Your oral hygiene and teeth care can be improved in a variety of ways. Improved tooth care can be as easy as remembering to brush and floss before bedtime each night. Disregarding the simple tasks it takes each day to keep a mouth healthy is the biggest reason for oral decay. Find out more Bowmanville Dentist.
